More than 1,000 shoppers at Wiregrass Commons Mall were exposed to more than two dozen SAMC services recently at the annual Hearts N Motion event. Moving the event back to the mall boosted attendance by several hundred.

Mall shoppers were exposed to the SAMC brand at the Feb. 9 event, which celebrates Heart Month, and had the chance to visit first-hand with more than 60 SAMC team members, including technicians, nurses and physicians affiliated with SAMC.

• 41 people with elevated cholesterol
• 10 with elevated blood sugar
• 3 with abnormal thyroid levels
• 3 elevated PSAs in men over the age of 40.

Cardiologist Srinivasa Chennareddy, MD, spoke to the group about maintaining a healthy heart and heart healthy meals were provided by Dothan Technology Center students with the assistance of SAMC's Chef Lionel Martin.

OBGYN Thomas W.C. Robinson, MD, and pediatrician Joanna McKinley, MD, also participated.

On the fitness front, Living Well Fitness staffers led several exercise demonstrations. Other participants included members of the Young Hearts exercise group; 4th graders from Heard Magnet School; and the Alabama Elite Gymnastics Academy Compulsory Team.

Amy D of WOOF Radio was the emcee for the 8479HeartsNMotionThirdPhotoevent. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority assisted at the event, as well as nurses from the Houston County Health Department and several TeenAge Volunteers.
